Mia came from a musical family and got her first banjo at age 15. Growing up, she was surrounded by the folk scene on the east coast. She was influenced by Woody Guthrie, Judy Collins, Buffalo Springfield, Laura Nero and even met the McGarrigle sisters while riding a train. Mia followed their example and wrote songs. She migrated to Idaho as a young woman and followed Rosalie Sorrels. She has sought out and jammed with Mary McCaslin, Ramblin Jack Elliot and many others. She plays guitar, banjo, harp and sings. Some bands she fronted were the Muldoon Canyon Band, Stetson, Yodeling Carl and Mia, No Cheap Horses and lots of solo gigs. She played some rough honky tonks. The most memorable gig she ever played was in a grange hall in Bruneau, Idaho with the band Stetson. Another good one was playing on WXPN in Philadelphia. Other gigs have been tourist hayrides, pack trips, hospitals, the Silver Dollar in Bellevue and Whiskey Jacques in Ketchum.
Around 1985, after Mia married, she took a musical hiatus while raising their daughter Anna. She was a real estate broker and amateur rider (see "Horses"). Her husband Steve, currently supports her musical activity cheerfully. Mia is not expecting to get famous or make alot of money in music. She seeks house concerts, festivals, radio shows and any other gigs because, after all she just wants to play...anywhere! A solo, duo or band show is available. She can employ some fine musicians to accompany her, who wait in the wings.
You may sample some songs on her latest CD "Horses and Other Matters" on this site.
